Responsibility
Good morning one and all,
As a teenager as I am, it is always a question: what happens when we are growing up, what is the difference it makes as we grow up. How our role in the society changes. One simple answer is that, we are becoming responsible people. Yes! That is one important difference between boys and men. That makes the difference between girls and women.
No one takes a young babies as responsible for what they do or what others do. But as we grow up, we become responsible for what we are and what others are. In other words, sense of responsibility is perhaps the most important sign of a mentally grown up person.
What is sense of responsibility? First of all it is an awareness that you are the reason why you behave in a certain way. It is a sense that you are the reason for what you are. It is very usual we hear children saying that “I did so because you did so”. This quite inadmissible. We are answerable to our own action. Yes! Being responsible is being answerable. If we do something, we must answer why we did so, not anybody else. So blame game and responsibility do not go together. There is a saying which exposes the lack of sense of responsibility. “Bad workers blame their tools”. This saying also implies the first thing we need to be good worker to be a grown up person, is to accept that our actions are our own action and only we are responsible for the good and bad in them. Thus the sense of responsibility is the starting point of improvement.
A second meaning of responsibility is an awareness that we are answerable to other people’s behavior and action. Responsibility in this sense is the most needed thing for all leadership roles. A leader takes and should take responsibility of everyone in his team. You are answerable if your people perform less. All modern organisations and institutions work on the principle of individual responsibility. So, we cannot be successful in this world without having sense of responsibility.
No relationships survive without this quality. Whether friendship, family or workplace, people gather around those who have the power to take responsibility. It means sense of responsibility is essential for personal success as well. I hope all my friends will consider themselves how far they are responsible. I also hope an improvement in this quality will make us more successful and more acceptable person.
