SAMPLE REPORT - MALDIVIAN TRADITIONAL GAMES

The sports club in your school has conducted a fest for Maldivian traditional games. As the convener of the club, prepare a report and submit to the principal of your school.

Here are some comments from your friends.

• We are losing many of our games. The fest helped to review them.

• Some interesting games were missing. We should have been more prepared.

This report is submitted to the principal based on the fest of Maldivian traditional games. A fest of Maldivian traditional games was conducted by the sports club of our school on 27th and 28th of October, 2018. The games were played on school and council ground. The theme of the event was “Our Pace- We Play”.

At a time when local and regional games are being flooded away by global corporate game culture, the fest which re-invented nearly 15 of our traditional games was very significant in bringing back a rich physical culture. Naturally, Bashi ball and net ball was stunning in terms of participation and spectator-ship. However, games that are less known to children of our age group served the real purpose of the fest. A student of Grade: 7 wondered that we have such a treasure of fun and fight.

On the other hand, the fest left the impression that it should have been inclusive of all the major traditional games. Some games which are part of the sporting life of some remote atolls were omitted due to insufficient homework. An A level student from a southern island commented that a proper use of social media could have brought information about more games and they would have added to the effectiveness of the event

On the whole, the fest helped to make students aware of our traditional games and motivated them to be players rather than viewers. It would be a good idea to open a Facebook group to bring information about more traditional games. It is highly inspiring to make this fest a regular annual event.
